Dead reckoning
by Michael Lyne
(03/04/09)
There is a point
that cannot be seen directly.
No crossed lines on a chart.
Approached only through the grand circle
of kiss and caress.
The journey there is of many ways
curving down through a sensing sea.
As we cut through the distance
only you know when we have reached our destination.
But I know the wind rising
and I know the prow cutting
ever faster through the foam
and I know the moment of no return
when I no longer pretend
to know my task
but only watch and feel and wonder.
A passenger on a heedless ship.
Desire crashing down on rising seas
as you laugh in the teeth of the gale
and we drop like dreamers
into the calm.
